Daylight and window view quality for visual comfort: the case of an office building in Jaffna

Architectural lighting is now simple and emotionless due to modern technological innovations, which makes it difficult recognise the distinct character of a place. With development air conditioning artificial systems, architects are more inclined adopt them than design equivalent spaces in natural light, thus, taking advantage ideal conditions raise quality space. The major difference between light daylight “view”, integration systems offer. This research initiative ascertain perceptual influence ‘window view quality’ achieving visual comfort. this mind, single case study investigated, thereby involving like-minded respondents that engage similar work programme. As limitation scope, an environmentally rated building specific locality – Jaffna selected. Post Occupancy Evaluation forms primary method adopted. Mapping space undertaken, together with Perceptual Spatial Analysis (PERCIFAL) surveys, correlate responses physically observed spaces. Results show occupants agree preferred mode for workspace. Although window views deemed enrich working environment, emphasis on its preference does not strongly among all respondents. Conclusions drawn parameters surveyed - drive perception form implications both as individual elements whole, achieve overall comfort within office environment.
